Preschooler with a Thousand Faces

This book is a current favorite with Wild Thing. There are a slew of these "trickster" books for kids, and I'm planning to look for a few more.

Oddly, though, I noticed this morning that the author, Gerald McDermott, is a consultant for the Joseph Campbell Foundation. Who knew that such an entity existed? Apparently they're trying to indoctrinate my son with dangerous ideas about comparative mythology.

Anyway, the book is good. We may go for this one next.

Back, sort of

Busy busy busy. I almost forgot about this whole blog thing. But, since I'm here.

Tonight we went to a concert in a local park. They're free, and there's one every week all summer. Tonight was a local country band, mostly doing covers of classics by George Jones and Johnny Cash and that sort of thing.

On the way home, we checked in with Wild Thing. "So, did you like the music?"

WT pauses. "Yeah." Another pause. "Was it Japanese?"

I guess he needs a more thorough introduction into American musical genres.
