Looking ahead
I see that by early June, the sun will be setting after 9 pm here in these northerly climes. I would much welcome any advice as to how to get your preschooler to buy into a bedtime that's a full half hour before sunset.
The obligatory blog.

Not that you'll like this solution, but we usually move bedtime back at least 30-45 minutes throughout the summer; by the time we finish bedtime stories it's not completely dark yet but it's close.
The only change (besides less evening free time) is that Thing One then wakes up at 6:30am instead of 5:30am, which is certainly not a problem for us. (Thing Two wakes up at 7am no matter when bedtime is.) Not sure how practical this is for you if WT is still napping and how it would work with your morning schedule.

Thanks--we've already done this, up to a point. Realistically the bedtime is now effectively 9 p.m. But even then it's not fully dark. Plus it's full day by 5:30 a.m., and the light-blocking shade can only do so much, so we're getting up quite a bit earlier, too.
Maybe we should just plan on catching up on our sleep come winter.
